My doctor has ordered an ENG (Electronystagmography). What is it? Electronstagmography is a test of your balance system function. It is often recommended when a patient has complaints of dizziness or balance disturbance.
How long does the test take? The test takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete and is administered by one of our Audiologists.
How is the test performed? The test involves the tracking of eye movements while wearing special goggles fit with miniature cameras. A caloric stimulation test is also performed with warm and cold water (or warm and cold air) placed into the ear canal while the eye movements are recorded.
Does the test cause any discomfort? There is minimal discomfort. Some people find cold water in the ear slightly unpleasant. Brief vertigo may occur during the test.
